On our second evening in Tokyo we went to explore Shibuya, a major Tokyo shopping district. We left the station and wandered around aimlessly for a while, occasionally looking into shops. We found a second hand bookstore with the largest selection of English books we've seen in Japan, and looked in a few other shops, but were mostly content to wander.

How cool is this? The footbridge extends right round the intersection |
Shibuya is famous for the Shibuya Crossing, an intersection where all traffic is stopped allowing great waves of humanity to cross in all directions at once. I wouldn't think that early Wednesday evening would be a particularly busy time, but as you can see from the below photos, there was still a sea of people. We also crossed with the wave, but to be honest, despite the sheer number of people here, it doesn't compare to crossing the road diagonally back home in Takatsuki, on a bike, amongst a few dozen other people on bikes.
We found ourselves some dinner in what turned out be be a rather mediocre restaurant, and then, of course, we (mostly Lucy) needed some desert. After a bit of a hunt, and almost succumbing to some mediocre looking ice-cream, we stumbled across
Cold Stone. It's pretty similar to
Cold Rock, but with fewer flavours and more of a Sundae emphasis. Actually, Cold Rock is better, but this was still good, and the girl behind the counter sang us a song as she prepared our sundaes.
