Arashiyama is a very popular place for autumn leaf viewing, and I was expecting it to be packed. It was pretty busy, especially on the train, but it seemed that most people congregated in the town, only viewing the colourful mountains from a distance. Otherwise, it was busier than the other times I've been, but not significantly so.
Shortly after arriving, I got a nasty shock. I'd gone to Arashiyama because I wanted to show Tim the monkeys, and it's also a very pretty place, but also because I wanted to take lots of photos of Arashiyama in Autumn. When I pulled out my camera, I realised that I had left my memory card in my computer. I swore, quite a bit, to Tim's great amusement. Luckily for me, however, Tim had his camera with him, so I stole the card out of his camera. He doesn't much like taking photos anyway.
The first priority, of course, was to take Tim up to the monkey mountain. Some things run in families... Stupidly, I didn't get any photos of Tim actually feeding the monkeys, but he did feed them some pieces of apple, trying vainly to give the apple to the little ones while the alpha males worked hard to chase them off.
I hadn't noticed this before. Notice the use of bait... |
You like my bike, do you? |
I probably shouldn't post this, but it's amusing |
The remaining photos are some scenery shots, including some from a minor temple whose name I don't remember. By the time we got home my legs ached (Tim claims to have been fine), but we had a great day chatting and soaking up the scenery.
This bridge features in many paintings of the area |
